1974, Joni Mitchell stops in the middle of performing "Both Sides Now" to talk about Star Trek:
"Did you ever used to watch that show called Star Trek? (cheers from crowd) Oh... I just had a flash of this show, that I saw while I was singing this tune. " (https://jonimitchell.com/music/song.cfm?id=83, she goes on to talk about Spock and clouds, just amazing)
@erinbee was there any song Leonard Nimoy didn't cover?
@srol He did not cover "In The Year 2525" by Zager and Evans, which is a bit of a disappointment
@erinbee fyi it took some digging but I managed to find a recording of this, and I've popped it into my Google drive if you're interested in hearing it: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1fRFqJSsZ609RyFyCFA4dKzplTof9--jY/view?usp=sharing
The episode she's talking about is "This Side of Paradise." Here's a clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SfdRVtIyFQc
@makingarecord Thank you! I love how the crowd is super into it 😆
@makingarecord @erinbee That was pretty awesome.
Joni Mitchell wrote "Both Sides, Now" in 1966 and other singers recorded versions before she did for her own album Clouds, in 1969. This includes Leonard Nimoy's 1968 version:
